"Ghost In The Shell" Remake Begins Production, First Look Revealed

A classic anime is coming to life on the big screen here in the states.

Today, Paramount Pictures has officially begun its production of the American live-action remake of the classic anime film "Ghost in the Shell" and released the first official look at Scarlett Johansson as the main protagonist, based on the character Motoko Kusanagi. Whether or not she plays the Japanese version of the character is still unknown.

There are many pointing fingers at this film with accusations of whitewashing the original source material. I respectfully disagree as this is the Western remake of the anime film. It is highly unlikely the characters we will see in the film are Japanese. As long as the film pays its respect to the spirit of the original source material, I believe it is not a case of whitewashing, unlike films like "Gods of Egypt" or "Exodus: Gods and Kings".

Overall, I am very excited to see this new "Ghost in the Shell" remake starring Scarlett Johansson.

What do you think of this film? Good? Bad? Too "whitewashed"?
