"Star Wars: The Force Awakens" Earns $900 Million Domestically, Expected To Cross $2 Billion This Weekend

Continuing to break new grounds.

By the end of today (February 5th, 2016), "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" will break new grounds and gross $900 million domestically [without inflation], becoming the first film not directed by James Cameron to do so in cinema history. The film is also expected to cross the $2 billion mark by this weekend, becoming one of 3 films in history to achieve this momentous goal (the other two being  James Cameron's "Avatar" and "Titanic").

While I am not as enthusiastic about "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" as most people, I am over-the-moon happy that the film is doing so well domestically and internationally. No matter what I thought of the 7th installment, it was the comeback to the beloved franchise that we needed and something many fans hold close to their hearts. As a "Star Wars" fan, seeing the franchise cross the $2 billion mark is very exciting.
